Pick the Right Book!

Picking the right book might seem easy but most us do not do this. Of ten, we choose books because they seem good at first glance or someone else is reading it. The truth is we are all at different stages of understanding what we read and we need to make good choices so that we enjoy what we are reading. Reading is not a chore, for most good readers it is a love or even passion. Next time, you go to chose a book follow these steps so that the book is Just Right for you:

Step 1: Choose a book by its cover

I know! Never judge a book by its cover! Wrong! There is tons of helpful info on a book cover but you have to be active while choosing by the cover. That means ask some good questions:

Do I know this author?

Do I like the topic/subject? *Includes a link to our library search engine!!

Do I like this Genre ?

Is the description interesting (on the back)?

Are there any reviews included on the cover?

And the list of questions go on, just be active while choosing!

Step 2: Five Finger Test

Now open the book and slap down your hand with your fingers open and read the words at your tips.

Do you know all 5 words? Great, try it a few times, this may be a just right book! Go to step 3!

You don’t know all the words! That is okay! THIS BOOK MAY BE TOO DIFFICULT AND WILL ONLY MAKE YOU FRUSTRATED!

Step 3: Read all the words in between your fingers.

Still understand and recognize them all? Okay, maybe not all but almost all? Great this is a book for you, but try step 4 to be sure.

Step 4: Open it up a do a little reading!

Nothing is more effective than taking a good read before buying or signing out a book! Hopefully you’ve found the book for you! If not,  don’t worry there are more books in circulation today then ever before!
